IUCSS Workshop on

Theoretical Aspects of the Standard-Model Extension

August 13-14, 2011

Indiana University, Bloomington

An IUCSS Workshop on Theoretical Aspects of the Standard-Model Extension will be held in the Physics Department, Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A. on August 13-14, 2011.

The Workshop focus will be on theoretical and phenomenological aspects of Lorentz and CPT violation in the context of the Standard-Model Extension. This gathering of theorists will review the current status of the subject and discuss outstanding open issues. The Workshop format is expected to be directed discussion sessions.

Among the SME topics that may be discussed are:

  • spontaneous and explicit Lorentz and diffeomorphism breaking
  • field quantization, spin-statistics, causality, stability
  • cross sections and decay rates
  • radiative corrections and renormalization, nonpolynomial interactions
  • quantum-classical correspondence, exact dispersion relations
  • mathematical foundations, Finsler geometry
  • Nambu-Goldstone, massive, gauge, auxiliary modes
  • classical solutions, topological defects, spacetime-varying couplings
  • emergence and Planck connection, strings, noncommutative QFT
  • phenomenology in the matter, gauge, and gravity sectors, torsion
  • realistic effective field theory, field redefinitions, coordinate and frame choices
  • classification and properties of nonrenormalizable sectors
  • model building for neutrino and meson oscillations
  • theories of gravity, constraints, large violations
  • connections to test models and other formalisms

There is no registration fee for this Workshop, but online registration on or before July 15 is required. Due to space limitations the total attendance is likely to be capped, so early registration is advised to avoid disappointment.

The Workshop hotel is the Indiana Memorial Union. This is located on campus close to the Physics Department and offers convenient access to the meeting venue. Parking in the hotel lot is free to hotel guests. A block of rooms is reserved until July 1 under the block code SME. Reservations can be made at (812) 856-6381 or (800) 209-8145.
